“If I hate my body, I am hating the thing that my children had a hand in creating. If the things my children create are beautiful and meaningful, than so must my body be.” ~Author Unknown This past week I created an extremely powerful image for one of my closest friends. We created an image for her to love and cherish her postpartum body. For her to look at and see what her two girls helped create. Ainsley had difficult pregnancies with both of her children, being hospitalized multiple times and having health issues come up with each pregnancy. After the birth of her daughter, Layla, she was again hospitalized for multiple days with a horrible infection which led to excruciating pain and her not being able to see her girls as much as she wanted to. For someone who is trying to help her toddler adjust to having a new baby in the house and wanting to spend time with her newest addition to her family, that can be very stressful on the system. Both mentally, and physically. Ainsley is one of the few women I know who can tackle something like this head on and want to bring […] Read More

A Rose…

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet” is a frequently referenced part of William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, in which Juliet seems to argue that it does not matter that Romeo is from her rival’s house of Montague, that is, that he is named “Montague.” Today a rose is given for many different reasons; love, friendship, condolences, congratulations. Many people sit and wonder what the meaning is to them. To me it is a symbol of prospect. A rose, or any flower really, is a sign of beauty. Something so beautiful can come from just a tiny seed, which turns into a patch of branches and looks distasteful, until it begins to bloom. When the buds begin to bloom into the flowers it shows, that there is beauty that comes from within. Beauty is shown through the darkest, ugly times and becomes visible to many, in even the simplest forms. This rose, is unique…look at it’s colouring, it’s petals. Get lost in the curves of the flower and feel the texture of the delicate petals. Something so gorgeous is also so fragile, with one wrong move you can damage the petals. In life, it’s the same […] Read More
With Christmas over and 2016 coming to a close, it’s time to reflect on all the great things that have happened this year. This year was such a great year for Growing Wings Photography. With 2017 fast approaching, there is so many new things around the corner. I am partnering with a friend and will be opening up a Event and Wedding Planning business. I am currently in the midst of getting my certifications through QC Event School for my Wedding and Event Planning, Event Decor and Luxury Event Planning. With a growing base at Growing Wings I have realized how blessed I truly am to have all these amazing clients. This year I have watched two babies come into this world, watched as my sister became a mom, made so many new friends, and watched children grow. Aurora, Arya and Knox are three children whom I have had the immense privilege of capturing them growing on more than one occasion. Aurora had her first Easter, first birthday, and announced that she is going to be a big sister this year. Arya is growing into a smart little girl whom is super adventurous and I have been able to hear […] Read More
There is something about watching two people get married that allows a photographer to be pulled through memories of their own wedding day. The preparation, the ceremony, the vows, the first kiss as a married couple….it all becomes so real. The love that people have for one another that just pulls them to state that they HAVE to be joined together in marriage. I had the immense privilege on October 14th, 2016 to capture the wedding between Samantha and Elyse at the Best Western Cairn Croft in Niagara Falls. These two ladies have an amazing background and after ten years of being best friends, they officially got married and joined their two lives together. I had a blast photographing this couple and their family on this most special day. Congratulations to Elyse & Samantha. I wish you many years of happiness and being surrounded by your loving friends and family.    A shot that was requested by bride and groom.  Garter Toss Dance-Elyse was completely into giving her wife, Samantha, a nice dance.  There is nothing more powerful than a kiss.  Such a beautiful bride and the girls were beautiful too.  Always a great time when you get mooned by […] Read More

This past weekend I have the immense privilege of capturing the cake smash to a little boy named Knox. His mom brought him to me for newborn photos last year and I had so much fun doing a Jake the Neverland Pirate themed cake smash. The cake was provided by Cake Heaven, a local bakery here in Sarnia, ON. Diane has provided cakes on multiple occasions for myself and always exceeds expectations. Happy 1st birthday to Knox and I cannot wait to watch you grow more, throughout the years. In the mean time since this session is done I will be waiting for two clients to go into labor and preparing for three family sessions this upcoming weekend. Have a great week everyone!! ~Maygin Read More

Busy Bee’s!

It has been a super busy couple weeks here and with being so busy I have been slacking on blog posts. So here is a giant update! To start off I photographed my darling friend’s baby boy, Noah. I met Noah when he was less than a day old and photographed him not much longer after that. He was such a sweetheart that took some coaxing to settle down. I then proceeded to go and photograph two maternity sessions, multiple newborn sessions and then a engagement session in Niagara Falls. I have had so much fun this past month and it has been so busy but everything is slowly settling down, which means more blog posts.  Jeff and Jordan spend a moment revelling in the fact that they soon will be parents.  Desiree holds her belly tightly in the warmth of the setting sun.  A warm night along the beach for the kids to play.  Jordan and Rachel take a moment to pause.  It’s all in the details.  In daddy’s arms, safe she will be.  Baby Nicholas holds tight to his baseball. Pregnancy brings a new meaning to the concept of beauty. It is a period of immense joy coupled with excitement. To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and distressingly inhabited. Soul and spirit are stretched – along with body – making pregnancy a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings.   When I found out that my middle sister was pregnant, I was super excited! Her and her husband were married one year ago today and I thought there was no better time to post to the blog about their maternity session!   We started off the day by going to Rock Glen Conservation Area in Arkona, ON to go back to the place where I photographed the two of them when it was Emily’s prom. Along the bridge, down to the falls and then back up to a little creek she was able to, for the most part, stay on her feet. With her sense of balance thrown off a little, she was a tad wobbly. At 33 weeks pregnant with a BOY, it is understandable. My first nephew has a due date of October 6th, 2016. I am really excited to meet this little boy, but […] Read More
On July 22nd in Camalachie, ON it was one of the hottest days of the summer. It was also the day that Jordan married her best friend. Jordan and Jeff were married during an evening ceremony with their closest family and friends. The day was hot, there was sweat pouring down the groomsmen backs but so much fun was had! The beers were cold and there was bins of water for everyone to enjoy. It was a beautiful day where Jordan and Jeff joined together into one family along with Jeff’s son and their daughter, whose expected to make her arrival end of September. I had the immense pleasure to capture this day for them and it was amazing. At the end of the evening, I decided to fracture my ankle, however, which has left me in a brace-BUT it will not keep me from working! I have wedding’s coming up and beach mini sessions. Take it easy and keep cool! ~Maygin     This shot(above) was the one I was shooting when I slipped and gained a hairline fracture. “I do it for the art!” Read More
Majority of the population walk by street vendors and don’t take a second look. They may look at them briefly and glance at their work, but to actually look and see the work that goes into each piece, to take the time and talk to the vendors is a rare thing. In Niagara Falls, ON majority of the tourists are there for the falls, the maid of the mist, or Clifton Hill. Not many think to look down or walk around streets that are surrounding the area.   On my honeymoon I made a point of stopping and talking to a gentleman who was doing sand art along the strip where we were staying. Magic Sand Art was the place we stopped and my husband did what he does best and was talking to the shop owner. While doing so, I took the opportunity to watch the artist, Jamal, work on a piece we had purchased for our newlywed friends back home. The delicacy in his hands working on such a small piece was amazing. The speed at which he proceeded and completed the pieces blew my mind.   Supporting small businesses has always been a main focus of mine […] Read More
Music started, the bridesmaids lined up, and Holly(maid of honour) reached back to grab the bride’s hand to make sure she was ready to go. After everyone was to the front, the father of the bride looked at her and asked “Are you ready?”. Not being able to speak, a simple nod was all that was needed. The lights were low, candles lit, and there he was…at the front of the hall with tears in his eyes-her groom. The ceremony started and they began the biggest adventure ever-marriage!   I did it, I got married! June 18th, 2016 was the day that I married my best friend and the man of my dreams. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. My bridesmaids all looked amazing as did my step-daughter, Ava in their beautiful dresses. Getting ready was chaotic near the end, when the hair dresser, Kathrine, and makeup artist, Darby, ended up both working on myself at the same time to allow for more time getting into my dress.   Formals were done at Germain Park in Sarnia, ON. It was beautiful, green and quiet. Family formals were completed relatively quickly and that’s all with great thanks to […] Read More
